Common questions
Can I use these online PDF tools for free without signing up?
EditPDF AI has 51 active tools. 41 include browser-based core workflows that can be used without an account. Signed-in free accounts can use up to 5 metered AI actions per UTC day; Pro removes that daily cap. Tool-specific input and processing limits still apply.
Do I need to create an account?
Core browser workflows do not require an account. No conversion currently requires Pro. PDF to Word, PDF to Excel, and PDF to PowerPoint require a signed-in account and use the shared 5-action Free allowance. Pro removes that daily cap; the same conversion input and processing limits still apply.
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
Core browser tools process selected files on your device. AI features may send extracted text, rendered page images, uploaded images, or a PDF to EditPDF AI server routes and configured processing providers when the feature requires it. The application does not write document content to its database or object storage.
What is the maximum file size?
Limits vary by tool. Several local tools accept PDFs up to 100 MB, while Chat with PDF also enforces a 1,000-page limit and AI routes apply their own text, image, token, or request-size constraints. Check the selected tool before processing.
What counts as an AI use?
One AI use is counted when an AI-backed request is submitted to a metered EditPDF AI server route. Examples include a form-detection or form-fill request, summary, translation, mind map, quiz, AI-assisted conversion, or each PDF page sent for OCR. A workflow can use more than one action when it makes separate AI requests. Browser-only PDF operations do not count.
Can I edit scanned PDFs?
The PDF OCR tool can extract text from supported scanned pages by sending rendered page images to the AI OCR route. Recognition quality varies, so review extracted text before editing, translating, or summarising it.
Can I rely on AI output without checking it?
AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete. Review results against the source document before relying on them, especially for legal, medical, financial, or other high-stakes use.
How many PDF tools does EditPDF AI include?
EditPDF AI includes 51+ PDF and AI tools covering editing, conversion, page organization, security, and AI-assisted workflows.
Does EditPDF AI work on Mac, Windows, and Chromebook?
Yes. EditPDF AI runs in your browser, so any modern browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, or a Chromebook works — there is nothing to install.
Does EditPDF AI add a watermark to my files?
No. Core tools do not add a watermark to your downloaded file unless you deliberately use the Watermark tool to add one yourself.
Do I need Adobe Acrobat to edit a PDF?
No. The PDF Editor runs entirely in your browser and does not require Adobe Acrobat or any other software installed on your device.
